    Lightbulb Schorhr's CDRR RPG

I am working on a game. I started out years ago, trying to make a RPG / Point & Click type of adventure in Flash with sprites from Toni. I now wrote a little Javascript engine so you can walk in the rooms and do a little (look, turn on the TV). It's a work in progress, so expect changes once in a while.

First game demo / Javascript testing
    http://wap.cc/cdrr/alpha_0-0-2/main.html
    DOWNLOAD http://wap.cc/cdrr/alpha_0-0-2/TakeTheTour_0-0-2.zip
Use Firefox 5 for good performance, still not optimized for Opera (somewhat works) and IE (untested)
(should work now, due to lack of preloading you may need to wait or hit reload for everything to show correctly)

Controls: Arrow keys, Space for looking at things and switching the TV on/off.

(if you feel like helping, please do. I'm still learning...)

    Look at all the rooms:
    Spoiler:

All older rooms and objects of the HQ (hopefully all recent versions) as layer psd or single png files
    http://wap.cc/cdrr/cdrr-bgs.zip (psd+png, 5,2mb)
    http://wap.cc/cdrr/cdrr-PNG.zip (only png, 2.5mb)

(credit where credit is due; original character sprites by Nintendo and the awesome new characters and poses by Toni)

    OLD POST

    Original post
    Spoiler:
There is also a (more rare) sedcond version. The real game sells at ebay for a couple of bucks, while CDRR2 sells more expensive (but some people say the game itself is not as good as part one).

In case any of you have missed it, I am working on a rpg using the old sprites (well, the modified & extended versions from Toni) and new ones (selfmade). Thanks to CDRR.ru and Shredder's description of the ranger's headquarter the work is progressing pretty good so far, even though not as fast as I'dd like ;-)

Work in progress. Coloring, Shading, Linework not final.

Nope, but an RPG sprite game sounds entertaining. Shall it have MIDI music, like proper video games?

I am uncertain about the audio. Either it will be classic, sort of matching the NES game's audio, or I'll use more advanced audio such as speech/clips from the show and MP3 Music, though I would need someone capable of writing/composing some entertaining music loops.

MIDI music would be just peachy. Honestly, that'd make my day.

    Hello again ;-)

Room game script demo... Almost the whole HQ done.
    http://wap.cc/cdrr/alpha_0-0-2/main.html
(Arrow keys, Space for looking at things and turning on the TV, best performance with Firefox 5 at the moment, no preloading between rooms so it takes a second or so to "draw" the rooms.)

This is beyond awesome, Schorhr! Just one problem I encountered while trying it out: Gadget gets stuck in her room. She can move up to a bit above the second "p" of "popularized" on the magazine, but then she can't go anywhere else again, no matter in which direction I send her.

EDIT: Worked on a second try, though.

    Thanks!

Yeah, I love the RepRap Project, but I have a pp3dp UP now... which means I should print a Reprap some day soon ;-)

It's amazing that it will print stuff so tiny and even movable, without having to print them seperate or having a second soluble support material.

I thought in these modern days, Gadget would need a Reprap to print customized, mouse-size parts...
    3 Printing FTW! http://thingiverse.com/Schorhr/things

I am glad for feedback and error reporting.
That's an odd place to get stuck though :-(
I made the game engine easy as possible, so others could include maps without (much) programming.
Basicly the maps are drawn (red=walls, green=doors, blue=active area to use SPACE-Key with).
Different color values lead to different exits/events
    (example: exit[100]="hq_workshop"; thing[200]="This is a window."; ).

The only place where I would think she could get stuck would be the sharp corner between handle and hammer head. I will test some more.

Me neither... been long enough :-) Though I have no story yet. So after all the rooms are done, I need it to figure out what features and maps to include...

    Thanks.

Now I just have to make it more lively. Animations help, but are quite some work.

I guess I could make some leave animations for outside and the windows that will look nice and can be inserted in almost any screen.

Glad that it works with everybody, the Javascript atempt is a bit rough but I think it's a better idea then continuing with flash. I don't have the latest version, and development would get crazzy if another person would join the project. Though I guess it could be all done with AS3 without the IDE, though that's not beginner friendly.
Also the debugging is pretty neat, as I force the rooms to reload every time they are entered. To test changes, I just have to go out and in again. I might make a reset-position key for when getting stuck... :-)

I hope you don't mind the publicity... A link to your project has been posted on the front page of this site, as well as on our Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Thanks :-) No, not at all. I reworked the first post a bit (inserted the new links and a downloadable archive of the "game")

My favorite room is definitely the bathroom. I love the plumbing on the toilet.

I admit, I attempted to flush the toilet while exploring that room.

    Thanks Alain :-)

    @Live2dream
Yeah, mine too, it was quite some work, especially since I was on a old mac then, using Seashore as it was faster then Gimp, but reduced functions and based on Gimp 1 I think. Lot's of hand-made pixeling ;-)

Now I use Paint.net as I like the bezier curve handling, which is faster and draws nicer lines (without steps) then Gimp or my old version of psp. If you know the applications, you can probably tell which image was created with what program
I had several ideas and I am happy that it's getting positive feedback :-) I was worried that people would find it wierd, even though it was all fun and joking arround.

The plumbin drove me nuts, I had a green straw at the beginning, but it just looked odd. Then I came up with the ink bottle and stuff, and it was just insane to draw :-)

So as with gadget's room, there is a version B :-))

As soon as I implemented the sound system you'll be able to flush, don't worry ;-) Right now the TV is the only thing interactive, but changing the toilet image or make the textbox spell out "Flush" would not be as much fun without the sound...

Right now I need to figure out the story, odd that in all those years no plot formed in my head.
