New ideas for the forums

I know this kinda negates my recent efforts to condense the forums, but I was considering adding something new after being inspired by something Hondo has going on at his forums - forums for individual members.

The way I would have it set up is to have a single forum link under the "General Discussion" category, and then within that forum there would be subforums - one for each member who requested one (kind of like how the cartoons / disney / warner bros forum was set up before I condensed it).

That subforum would pretty much be yours to treat however you wanted (Hondo's forum refers to them as "rooms") - If you wanted to treat it like a blog, you could; or others could use it to engage in conversation with you directly, or ask questions, without taking a different thread off-topic. Only members who request a subforum would be granted one, of course... and that would most likely be done in the general area of the parent forum.

I think this would be a great way for everyone to get to know each other, but that's only my opinion... I'm more interested in hearing what everyone else thinks, first.

You always do so much for us Ducky. Sounds like an interesting idea, do you think you might get overwhelmed with requests? Like a hundred sub-forums might be hard to keep organized. I may be able to use this to help organize my plans. I say give it a test run to see how things play out. You may have to stop if it gets too crazy.

It would take hundreds of active members to request hundreds of sub-forums. Seeing as we probably have less than ten right now, it shouldn't be too much of a burden.

Then go for it, I'm interested to see how this will play out. Wait............what the?! "Enemy of Clarice", where the heck did this one come from? That's certainly a new one.

I might request one in the near future, but to be honest I express myself well enough on the boards we already have.

There's a feature that can be added to the forum that would allow for each member to have their own profile page. This would be different from the basic profile that already exists - think of it more like an easy to set up personal website, like myspace. It includes a simple editor, the ability to upload images and such, as well as an option for other people to leave comments for you.

If there's enough interest in such a thing, I might consider implementing it... but I don't want to put forth the effort if only two people are going to take advantage of the feature.

I know I'm a late replier, but I think I'd use that cool feature, if you do feel like implementing it Ducky. I use the User page on any wikis that I contribute to, and they're always fun to fill out, so I think I'd use this too.
